An African Romeo & Juliet.

Movie is in mainly in English.

The parts were Yoruba (a Nigerian Language)

and/or French is spoken have English Subtitles.

The movie tells the story of a Nigerian girl Abeni from a rich background and Akanni, a Beninoise, from a middle class background, both of whom fell in love at the tender age of 10. Abeni's father disapproved of their relationship and showed it by terminating Akanni father's employment. The interesting love story has several significances. It explores the cohabitation of poverty and wealth. The movie confronts colonization. The mixture of actors and actresses from the Anglophone and Francophone divides of the Yoruba world, the interpretation and delivery of the dialogues present an interesting look at the stylistic influences of English and French colonization on the Yoruba language. While the Nigerian Yoruba actors spoke the language with the infusion of English, the Beninoise actors spoke the French language fluently.

A story of endurance and perseverance.  Tumini is a survival of many odds.

Tumini was raped at a young age by her uncle (mother's brother).  Her mother emotionally abused Tumini through childhood physically, mentally, and emotionally for telling her father, a weak man, who did very little to protect her.  In adulthood, Tumini continues to experience her mother's wickedness.

This movie will put you at the edge of your seat every minute.  Rape is a serious issue that is still not considered a crime in most African countries.  Most people still believe that the woman or girl is lying.  Tumini's mother felt Tumini didn't like her uncle, hence telling a hideous lie to break up the family.  At the end Tumini's mother discovers Jesus.  Will Tumini forgive her mother?  Should Tumini forgive her mother?

There will be many teary eyes in the cinema.  Come and share your rape experience or give insight as to dealing with rape issues.
